Three programs,
including the awkward one

In one of these, organic traffic fell by twelve percent over the engagement. It is the one I am proudest of, and it is the clearest argument for why traffic is the wrong number to manage against.

Halved the blog, tripled the pipeline

Two years of publishing four posts a week had produced 41,000 monthly sessions and no attributable revenue. The team could not get budget renewed on the strength of a traffic chart.

What we did

  • Removed or merged 118 of 240 blog posts
  • Built 11 comparison and alternative pages against three incumbents
  • Fixed a canonical bug that had been de-indexing the use-case template
  • Ran a salary benchmark study that earned 74 referring domains

Traffic went down. That was the plan, and it is why the traffic number is the wrong one to manage against.

Four hundred pages that Google could not see

A Next.js rewrite eight months earlier had shipped client-side rendering on the entire marketing site. Pages looked fine to humans and returned an effectively empty DOM to crawlers. Nobody had caught it.

What we did

  • Diagnosed the rendering failure in week two of the audit
  • Migrated marketing routes to static generation
  • Rebuilt the sitemap and segmented it for index monitoring
  • Reworked internal linking from the docs subdomain

The fix took one sprint. Finding it took four weeks of audit, which is the part people try to skip.

Winning a category with 90 searches a month

Every keyword worth having had under 200 monthly searches and three incumbents with ten times the domain rating. Two previous agencies had recommended broad top-of-funnel content instead.

What we did

  • Built out 34 vertical and company-size landing pages
  • Wrote the procurement, security, and migration objection pages sales kept asking for
  • Ran a quarterly industry benchmark that now gets cited by trade press
  • Wired organic sessions into the CRM for multi-touch reporting

Total search volume across all 61 keywords is under 6,000 a month. It does not need to be more than that.
